Always Be Prepared When in Charge of the Elderly

It never hurt anyone to be prepared. An ounce of caution is worth a pound of cure and all that. And being with the elderly all the more makes those preparations very important. The slightest misstep can mean a whole lot of work. Imagine needing an adult diaper when there is none in sight. This means going to the store to buy a whole bag of adult diapers, when the initial chore was just replacing the soiled diapers. In the meantime, there is someone waiting at home with soiled diapers. If the right preparations were made, the job would have been a whole lot easier.

It is the same thing with blood pressure monitors. Keeping track of your patient's blood pressure is more preventive than anything, and if a situation should arise where the history of the patient's blood pressure is more important than anything else, then you go into 20-20 hindsight in guilt mode at that. These are little things, to be sure, but sometimes, even the smallest of things turn into big things with time.

So be prepared. It is one thing to be caught off-guard – accidents happen. But it is completely another thing to be caught wrong-footed, when the solution would have been simpler if you came into it prepared. Taking care of the elderly is hard work, that is certain, but even with a small amount of foresight, you can make the job a whole lot easier.
